Dear Light Group,
With Thanksgiving, we begin the four week run-up to Christmas. Our obsession for much of this period is with things: it starts with Black Friday and concludes with gift-giving on Christmas Day. This is not all there is to this period: there can be wonderful togetherness with our families and friends. But much of what we are confronted with is BUY BUY BUY.
During this period, let us, in our Light Group, ensure that we maintain our primary focus on the Christ.
We can do that by giving thanks for the Christ spirit. You could start with the Christ spirit in Jesus: “Thank you, God, for the spirit of the Christ in Jesus.” You could then give thanks for the Christ spirit in any other spiritual leaders who you admire. For example, you might say, “Thank you, God, for the Christ spirit in Jim Goure.”
Jesus said, “The things I do you can do and greater,” indicating that the spirit of the Christ is in us also. Similarly, during the Last Supper, “Jesus took bread and blessed it and brake it and gave it to the disciples and said, ‘Take, eat; this is my body.’” If we eat the Christ, then we become the Christ.
So we can also give thanks for the Christ in ourselves and in everyone else: “Thank you, God, for the spirit of the Christ in me. Thank you, God, for the spirit of the Christ in my loved ones. Thank you, God, for the spirit of the Christ in my friends. Thank you, God, for the spirit of the Christ in those with whom I have a difficult relationship. Thank you, God, for the spirit of the Christ in all of our leaders. Thank you, God, for the spirit of the Christ in everyone and everything.”
By giving thanks for the Christ in everyone, we recognize the Christ in everyone. And when we do that, we know the universality of the Christ. And that’s what Christmas is about.
Love and Light,
